Police make arrest - Drugs in Alice Springs 14 June

A 47-year-old man who is alleged to have attempted to smuggle a large quantity of cannabis stashed in a hidden compartment of his vehicle, has been arrested and charged.

Detectives from the Southern Drugs Investigation Unit executed a search warrant on the man's car in which it is alleged 6.35kgs of cannabis, with a street value of more than $100,000, was located secreted in a custom made compartment under the vehicle.

It will be further alleged the man was found is possession of a large sum of cash.

The man was arrested and taken to the Alice Springs Watch House where he was charged with one count of Possession of a schedule 2 drug - Commercial quantity and one count of Supply Schedule 2 Drug - Commercial quantity.

The man has been bailed to appear before court on 6 July, 2022.
