Police make arrests - Multiple offences in Katherine

Northern Territory Police have arrested two men for traffic, drug and firearms offences.

Katherine Police had cause to speak to the occupants of a vehicle travelling slowly on the wrong side of the Stuart Highway about 170km north of Katherine around 1:40am on 18 October 2019. During the interaction with police, police observed a rifle on the rear seat of the vehicle. A further vehicle inspection resulted in police locating a .357 magnum revolver, a Colt Circuit Judge 45 calibre revolver, a quantity of methamphetamine and equipment used to administer drugs.

A 27-year-old Girraween man and a 30-year-old Acacia Hills man have been arrested and are currently at the Katherine Police Station where they will be interviewed today.

At this time, it is expected that the 27-year-old man will be charged with:

  • Drive With Prohibited Drug In Body
  • Possess Schedule 1 Drug - Traffickable Quantity
  • Possess Prohibited Firearm
  • 2x Possess Firearm Without Licence
  • 2x Possess Ammunition Without Licence
  • 2x Fail To Meet Storage Requirements
  • Modify Firearm
  • Alter Firearm
  • Alteration Of Identification Marks
  • Possess Under The Influence Of Drugs

It is expected that the 30-year-old male will be charged with:

  • Possess Schedule 1 Drug - Traffickable Quantity
  • Possess Prohibited Firearm
  • Possess Firearm Without Licence
  • Possess Ammunition Without Licence
  • 2x Fail To Meet Storage Requirements
  • Modify Firearm
  • Alter Firearm
  • Alteration Of Identification Marks
  • Discharge Or Firearms On Roads
  • Possess Under The Influence Of Drugs
