Police probe after almost 20kg of Cannabis found in car in Hay

A man has been charged by police after a search of his car revealed almost 20 kilograms of Cannabis in the vehicle at Hay overnight, NSW Police say.

About 9.20pm on Friday 2 September 2017, police from Deniliquin Local Area Command were patrolling the Cobb Highway.

The officers observed a man allegedly perform an illegal u-turn in his vehicle and he was subsequently stopped and spoken to.

The 57-year-old male driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was issued an infringement notice for the offence.

During a subsequent search, police will allege they located in the boot of the vehicle, two suitcases containing 18.8 kilograms of Cannabis leaf that was packed in plastic bags.

The man was arrested and conveyed to Hay Police Station where he was later charged with possess prohibited drug and supply cannabis (commercial quantity).

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Hay Local Court on Monday 16 October 2017.
