Police responding to fatal traffic crash at Walkers Point

Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash at Walkers Point in Queensland's Fraser Coast, believed to have occurred last week.

On Sunday May 8, Police were alerted to vehicle tracks in the vicinity of Walkers Point Road, leading to a nearby dam, however no vehicle could be seen. The Brisbane-based police dive squad attended and recovered a submerged vehicle in waters 7 metres deep around midday today, Tuesday May 10. Within the 2007 Black Mazda CX7 Wagon, a 77-year-old Hervey Bay man was located deceased.

Preliminary investigations suggests the driver may have been travelling north along Walkers Point Road when he has failed to negotiate a sharp bend parallel to the dam, and consequently entered the water.

Maryborough Forensic Crash Investigators will prepare a report for the coroner and are appealing for witnesses, especially those with dashcam footage capturing the moments leading up to and including the crash to come forward.
