Police responding to scooter crash at George Town Road, Newnham

At approximately 8:55pm on Monday the 23rd August 2022 police and emergency services were informed of a crash involving a scooter on George Town Road, Newnham.

Emergency Services attended the crash scene a short time later.

The 37 year old rider was transported to Hospital by Ambulance Tasmania in what appeared to be a serious condition. After assessment and treatment at the Launceston General Hospital, the condition of the rider was found to be stable and non-life threatening.

Investigations were carried out at the scene of the crash by members of Northern Crash Investigation Services and Northern Forensic Services. George Town Road was closed for around 2 hours while the investigation were completed.

Police are investigating if speed and alcohol were contributing factors to the crash.

Sergeant Gavin Chugg of Launceston Police said 'All riders of electric scooters are required to wear helmets, obey speed limits, and not consume alcohol before riding.'

Tasmania Police ask that anyone who witnessed the crash, or who observed the scooter prior to the crash to contact Northern Crash Investigation Services on 131444 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
