Police seek information after woman robbed at Lake Illawarra

Police are appealing for public information after a woman was robbed in the state's Illawarra yesterday.

Police have been told a 76-year-old woman was leaving a grocery store on the Princes Highway, Unanderra, about 4.20pm (Thursday 9 March 2023), when she was approached by a man who stole her handbag from the shopping trolley.

During a short struggle, the woman was pushed to the ground before the man ran towards Tallegalla Street with her handbag containing cash, a mobile phone and documentation.

The woman was taken to Wollongong Hospital where she was treated for concussion, and lacerations and bruising to her face, hands and body.

Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District have commenced an investigation and have released CCTV images of a man they believe could assist with inquiries.

The man is described as being between 30 and 40 years old, with tanned skin and short dark hair.

At the time, he was wearing a black shirt with white 'Massimo' branding, blue jeans and Nike shoes and was carrying a green backpack.
