Police seek public assistance after pedestrian crash at Wollongong

Police are appealing for public assistance and an investigation is underway after a pedestrian crash at Wollongong yesterday.

About 6.45pm (Saturday 9 April 2022), emergency services responded to reports a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle on Gipps Road, Gwynneville.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended and were told an elderly woman was crossing Gipps Road about 10 metres east of Berkeley Road, when she was struck.

The unknown vehicle failed to stop and travelled east on Gipps Road towards Keiraville.

Police believe the vehicle may have been a light-coloured Subaru Outback or similar.

Members of the public assisted the woman until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived at the scene.

The 85-year-old was taken to Wollongong Hospital in a serious yet stable condition.

Police established a crime scene which was examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.
