South Australia Police (SAPOL) have targeted hoon activity following a car meet near Adelaide Airport overnight.
Officers from the Road Policing Section received information about a gathering of vehicles in the vicinity of Adelaide Airport on the evening of Saturday 23 May. Police attended and coordinated with Australian Federal Police (AFP) based at the airport.
As vehicles involved in the meet exited the airport precinct, police intercepted several vehicles and issued nine defect notices and nine expiation notices for various traffic offences.
With the assistance of PolAir, a Ford sedan was observed leaving the precinct while performing a burnout just before 7pm. PolAir tracked the vehicle for a short distance until patrols were able to safely intercept it. The driver, a 28-year-old man from Woodville Gardens, was reported for misuse of a motor vehicle and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
About an hour later, AFP patrols intercepted a Holden sedan after the driver allegedly performed a burnout within the airport precinct. SAPOL traffic patrols attended and submitted the provisional licence holder to a roadside drug test, where he returned a positive result for cocaine. The driver, a 20-year-old man from Para Hills, was reported for misuse of a motor vehicle and drug driving and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date. He was also issued with a three-month instant loss of licence.
Both vehicles were impounded for 28 days.
This operation highlights SAPOL's commitment to road safety and its ongoing collaboration with partner agencies, including the AFP, to keep South Australian roads safe.
