Police update 3: Bogie fatal shooting

A 59-year-old man remains in police custody in Bowen following the investigation into the fatal shooting of three people and the wounding of another man in Bogie yesterday.

Around 9am yesterday, police received a report three people had been fatally shot at a property on Shannonvale Road and another man had suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Acting Superintendent Tom Armitt said the shootings occurred in an extremely remote location.

"The crime scene is approximately 2.5 hours from Bowen and 1.5 hours from Collinsville. The distance between the two properties is a 45-minute drive and it is a 3km drive from the front gate to the house on the property.

"Yesterday around 9am, police received information a man had been shot and three other people had been fatally shot at a property in Bogie. The wounded man fled the scene and contacted police. He was later located by police 40km away for where the shooting took place," Acting Superintendent Armitt said.

"Police established where the shooting had occurred and then a team of police entered the crime scene on a property on Shannonvale Road and located a 71-year-old man and 59-year-old woman both from The Gums and a 35-year-old man from Bogie, all deceased from gunshot wounds.

"Police made contact with the people on the Shannonvale Road property and the five people were taken into custody to assist with the investigation. Four of those people have since been released.

"A 59-year-old man, who remains in custody, is a long-term resident of Bogie. We expect to charge him later this afternoon," Acting Superintendent Armitt said.

"The injured man remains in Mackay Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition with a single gunshot wound to the stomach. Detectives were able to speak with the man last night and again today."

The investigation is ongoing, and police are seeking anyone in the Bogie area who has knowledge or information of any issues occurring in the area to please contact police.

Detectives also want to speak with anyone who may have had interactions with the property owner in the past two months.
