Police Update: House Fire, Wurtulla

Police have charged a 34-year-old Caloundra West man with multiple offences, following an investigation into a house fire on Baroona Street, Wurtulla.

Initial investigations indicate the fire started in the driveway, destroying a vehicle, and then spread to the house.

A man, a woman and a child inside the house escaped without physical injuries and firefighters extinguished the fire.

Police patrolled the area and located the man in a car nearby.

Police will allege the man is known to the people in the house.

The 34-year-old Caloundra West man has been charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, two counts of arson and one count each of enter dwelling and commit, possess explosives and drive without due care and attention.

He has been refused police bail and is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today, May 9.
