On 8 September 2025, Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit detectives executed a search warrant where a 15-year-old boy was arrested in relation to alleged torture and indecent treatment offences.

As a result of further investigations by Gold Coast CPIU and the Counter Terrorism Investigation Unit, the 15-year-old was further charged with one count of one possession of child exploitation material and one possession of violent extremism material under the Commonwealth Criminal Code on 28 February 2026.

The Gold Coast boy has been given bail and is expected to appear in Southport Children's Court on 25 March 2026.

South Eastern Regional Crime Coordinator Detective Superintendent Chris Ahearn said as evident by these charges, the QPS will continue to target this type of behaviour.
