Premature announcements help nobody

Tasmanian Labor

The government's premature announcement of using post offices to distribute RATs shows just how much of a shambles their current plan is.

Shadow Health Minister Anita Dow said the government was clearly making it up as they go, announcing a policy before shelving it just days later.

"It is incredible that the government jumped the gun on such an important announcement," Ms Dow said.

"The announcement of a distribution deal with Australia Post was a significant one and its clear the work wasn't done before the Premier announced this plan to the public.

"It's also clear that - unacceptably - critical decisions are being made on the run."

Ms Dow said the shift from PCR to RATs was a clear sign that despite government promises there simply wasn't capacity in the system.

"The Premier has once again moved the goalposts, with today's announcement a sign of the extreme pressure and stress on our health workers and health system.

"Tasmanians need leadership, certainty, transparency and importantly they need a government that is doing everything they can to keep them safe, right now the government is letting Tasmanians down."
