PREPARE TO LEAVE: Tableland Road/Cross Road part of Mount Maria bushfire

Bushfire warning level: WATCH AND ACT

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) advises there is a dangerous bushfire in burning in the vicinity of Mount Maria and conditions could get worse.

Residents who have evacuated will not be allowed to return to the area until they are advised it is safe to do so due to dangerous fire activity.

There is a separate bushfire warning in place for residents along Kirkpatrick Road, Whytallabah Road and Hills Road.

You need to be ready to follow your bushfire survival plan. If you do not have a plan, or intend to leave, you should be ready to leave the area because the situation could get worse quickly.

Currently as at 10am Tuesday 17 December, a large fire is travelling in a westerly direction towards Lowmead. The fire is impacting Tableland Road between Cross Road and Mitchell Road. The fire is expected to have a significant impact on the community.

Fire crews will be conducting backburning operations in an effort to contain the fire but firefighters may not be able to protect every property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door.

There is an evacuation centre at Miriam Vale Community Hall, 41 Blomfield St Miriam Vale.

Tableland Road is closed between Cross Road and Hills Road, however there is access to Baffle Creek, Agnes Water and Bundaberg.

People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.

Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if you believe your property is under threat.
