Wollongong City Council crews are busy sprucing up the city's war memorials and cenotaphs to host Anzac services this Saturday.
This year marks 111 years since the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during World War I at Gallipoli.
Lord Mayor of Wollongong Councillor Tania Brown said Anzac Day was a special day for our nation, one of reflection and remembrance.
"On 25 April, we remember and acknowledge the brave men and women who have served in Australia's and New Zealand's armed forces.
"Although Council's teams take great pride in all of the public areas they oversee, the war memorials get some extra love ahead of special days like Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.
"We maintain memorials and cenotaphs on community land from Dapto and Port Kembla in the south, right through Wollongong, Corrimal, Thirroul, Austinmer and up to Helensburgh and Stanwell Tops in the north. Our teams and I want these important spots to look their best!
Works have included mowing, weeding, whipper snipping, hedging, pruning and gurneying.
Wollongong Cenotaph plays host to the biggest dawn and morning services in the region, attracting hundreds of attendees each year. The site will look the part after council staff this week carried out tree lopping (pictured above) and gurneying works.
At Corrimal, Helensburgh RSL President Michael Ali was on hand to oversee the preparation works with staff member Jade Farrar.

Hedging and maintenance works at Dapto Memorial were undertaken a week early in preparation for the Dapto-Port Kembla RSL Sub-Branch's march.
Cr Brown encouraged residents to head out and pay their respects and remember the price the Anzacs paid for the freedom we enjoy.
