VIC Premier

Current and aspiring school principals have a unique opportunity to lead a brand-new school and establish a new culture from the ground up, with applications now open for principal positions at the Andrews Labor Government's new schools set to open in 2023.

While this year's new schools are preparing to open their doors next week, Minister for Education James Merlino today announced applications for dedicated educators to lead the opening of the 12 new schools the Labor Government will open next year. The new schools, currently known by their interim names, are:

Camms Road Primary School Hayes Hill Primary School Holyoake Parade Primary School Lollypop Creek Primary School Merrifield West Secondary School Mount Ridley Special School Officer Rix Road Primary School Riverdale East Primary School Rockbank Murray Road Primary School Tarneit Missen House Primary School Wollert East Secondary School Wollert West Primary School

In addition, a new campus for North Melbourne Primary School will open to cater for significant enrolment growth in the inner city over the coming years.

Principals for these schools will be appointed around April and begin work at their new school in Term 2 this year.

To establish the school with strong foundations, the new principals will appoint talented staff as soon as possible to build relationships with families and the new school communities, as well as working closely with architects and builders to provide the right environment for students to achieve their best.

Prospective principals can apply through the Department of Education and Training's Recruitment Online portal.

The Labor Government is building the Education State so that every student has the opportunity to access a great local school and a quality education.

In 2022, 14 new schools will open across the state as part of the Government's work to build 100 new schools between 2019 and 2026, delivering a quality education for students in the state's fastest-growing areas.

As stated by Minister for Education James Merlino

"We're on the hunt for dedicated, inspiring school leaders to build the culture of our new schools from the ground up - creating new learning opportunities in some of our fastest-growing areas."

"We're delivering new schools right across the state to make sure every Victorian student and family has access to the best facilities and the best opportunities to succeed at school."
