Priorities wrong as economic outlook slips

Tasmanian Labor

Data from the latest CommSec report demonstrates that the Liberal Government is out of touch and sitting on its hands when it comes to the cost of living crisis.

The report highlights that the cost of living is rising faster in Tasmania than anywhere else in the nation - and it is little wonder when the Liberals keep failing to deliver on their promises like capping power prices and "no new taxes".

This has no doubt contributed to Tasmania's weak retail trade, especially when you look at the effect new taxes and soaring power prices are having on large institutions like Boag's in the North.

Tasmania's decreased ranking is more evidence that the Liberal Government has forgotten the basics of economic management under Premier Jeremy Rockliff and Treasurer Michael Ferguson.

We have a Treasurer wreaking havoc on the budget with record debt, an Energy Minister who sits on his hands when it comes to power prices and a Premier more concerned with building a $1 billion stadium than assisting Tasmanians with health, housing and cost of living.

This is a government that continues to get its priorities wrong and refuses to act on the challenges facing Tasmanians.
