Public Statement - Advisory Committee Appointments

The City of Stonnington would like to warmly congratulate the newly appointed members of our Reconciliation, Disability and Rainbow Advisory Committees.

Mayor Cr Melina Sehr said the Committees play a vital role in shaping policies, programs and services, driving meaningful engagement to improve outcomes for the community.

"The Committee members' lived experience, insights and leadership will help Council build a community that is inclusive, equitable and reflective of all who live here," said Mayor Sehr.

"Their perspectives are essential, and we look forward to working in partnership to build a more just, accessible and respectful community.

"On behalf of Council, I thank the members for contributing their time and sharing their passion and commitment," she said.

Each Committee will work with one Councillor representative, who will act as Chair.

The purpose of the Reconciliation Advisory Committee is to provide strategic advice and guidance while advocating on issues and barriers affecting First Peoples communities in the Stonnington area.

Committee members: Aunty Diane Kerr, Aunty Alice Kolasa, Uncle Tony Garvey, Keith Gove. Chair: Cr Kate Hely

The Disability Advisory Committee will provide Council with advice on matters relating to people with disability, their families, and carers who live, work, study or visit the City of Stonnington, and to provide feedback on the progress of the City of Stonnington Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2023 - 2026.

Committee members: Beverley Gorr, Catherine Roberts, Charles Aponso, Clovelle Carr, Denise Wong, Kiera Hannigan, Konrad Ermert, Phillip Lam. Chair: Cr Steve Stefanopoulos

The Rainbow Advisory Committee provides a forum for LGBTIQA+ people and allies to voice their concerns, needs, and ideas to Council establish an effective channel of communication to reach LGBTIQA+ communities.

Its purpose is to provide feedback on the implementation of the LGBTIQA+ Action Plan and to provide advice and Council policy and programs to address systemic discrimination.

Committee members: Ace Taylor, Angelo Pantelone, Arthur Chan, Brian McCarte, Francis Loughran, Roman Lee. Chair: Cr Samantha Choudhury

Vacancies on the Disability and Rainbow Advisory Committees will continue to be advertised with representatives to be approved under procedures set out in the Stonnington Committees Policy.
