Pursuit And Drug Charges Laid After Narrabri Pursuit

A man has faced court on drug and pursuit charges, following a police pursuit near Narrabri yesterday.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District were conducting patrols on the Kamilaroi Highway at Turrawan about 11.30am yesterday (Monday 23 February 2026), when they observed a Mazda sedan allegedly speeding and displaying incorrect number plates.

When the driver failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued into Narrabri before police lost sight of the vehicle.

The driver - a 34-year-old man - allegedly side-swiped a truck which brought the vehicle to a stop, before he was arrested by police.

Police observed the man throw a package over a nearby fence upon exiting the vehicle, and after searching the property, officers allegedly located and seized a plastic bag containing an amount of methylamphetamine.

The man was subject to roadside testing, allegedly returning a positive result to methylamphetamine.

He was arrested and taken to Narrabri Police Station where he was charged with:

  • Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously - 1st offence,
  • Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road,
  • Use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed,
  • Never licensed person drive vehicle on road - first offence,
  • Possess prohibited drug, and
  • Breach of bail.

He was refused bail and faced Bail Division Court 5 today (Tuesday 24 February 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Moree Local Court on Monday 2 March 2026.
