The Crisafulli Government is delivering funding to local councils for key infrastructure projects, to improve safety and amenities.
Four councils will receive a share of $3 million in funding, delivered as part of the 2024-28 Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.
The Program supports councils to deliver priority infrastructure projects that meet the needs of their communities, create safe, liveable and prosperous regions and promote long-term council sustainability.
The four councils who will benefit from this funding have projects focused on delivering safety improvements including CCTV and lighting and improving infrastructure by resurfacing and upgrading water mains.
The projects for the 2024-28 round of funding announced today include:
Resurfacing and drainage improvement project at the depot at the Woorabinda Aboriginal Shire Council: $732,000
CCTV Network Project for the Richmond Shire Council: $313,000
Street lighting upgrades for the Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council: $657,000
New Trunk Main at Jubilee Pocket for the Whitsunday Regional Council: $1.35 million
After a decade of decline under Labor, the Crisafulli Government is building a better future for Queenslander's by backing our local councils to get on with the job and improve key safety and amenities in the regions.
Minister for Local Government and Water Ann Leahy said the Program provided the support to council to deliver priority projects to the communities they know best.
"The successful applications are delivering priority projects that improve safety and access to amenities which are key for regional Queensland communities," Minister Leahy said.
"We are empowering our local councils to decide where the funding should be spent and to get on with the work.
"The Crisafulli Government is delivering on its promise to support local councils, and these four councils are just part of the $115 million in funding for the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program."
Member for Gregory Sean Dillon said this project showed what strong partnerships between local councils and the Crisafulli Government can achieve.
"By securing $732,000 for vital resurfacing and drainage works, we're not only improving road conditions but also supporting local jobs and strengthening the backbone of our regions transport network. It's a win for residents, industry and the long-term resilience of our community," Mr Dillon said.
Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said $657,000 for upgraded street lighting was a direct investment in the safety and wellbeing of our community.
"Through the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program, the Crisafulli Government is giving councils the support they need to deliver brighter, more reliable lighting that helps residents feel safer," Ms Frecklington said.
Member for Whitsunday Amanda Camm said securing $1.3 million through the Program for the new Trunk Main at Jubilee Pocket was about planning ahead and backing the long-term growth of our community.
"This upgrade will strengthen water security, improve network reliability and ensure local families, businesses and tourism operators have the essential services they need as the Whitsunday's continues to expand," Ms Camm said.
