- The first quarterly report of the social housing register has been released
- It comes after Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon recently committed to more open, frequent reporting
- The quarterly data will help the department, housing stakeholders and the community better understand demand and any emerging trends or patterns at a point in time
Queensland's social housing register has been published on the Queensland Government open data website, as part of new quarterly reporting arrangements.
As at June 30, 2023 there are total of 25,364 applications on the register, a reduction in the social housing register by 7.6% in the last financial year.
Over the last 12 months over 5,000 households have been assisted into social housing.
The Minister's commitment to report more frequently joins a number of other improvements being made to the register in response to recommendations from the Queensland Audit Office (QAO).

"If we want government, housing providers, the construction industry and community to better understand the demands and trends of our social housing register – then we need to be open and more frequent in our reporting.
"Right around Australia, national housing pressures are having an impact – and Queensland has not been immune. It's why we are rolling out a record $5 billion investment to help deliver 13,500 homes, and we want to make sure that rollout is as effective as possible.
"By reporting more frequently – alongside other measures we've committed to in response to the QAO's recommendations – it means we can better deliver social and affordable housing where they're needed, as well as other products like rental grants, subsidies and specialist homelessness services.
"We want to make sure that our systems and investment Re fit-for-purpose and that Queenslanders receive the right support, at the right time to meet their needs.
"This is part of my commitment to transparency and being up front with the community about the challenges in the housing market."
