Queensland's Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, the Hon Tim Nicholls MP officially opened Poinciana House, the much-anticipated addition to Keyton's Bernborough Ascot, Australia's first vertical retirement community within a racecourse, this morning in Brisbane.
Positioned alongside the city's Doomben Racecourse in leafy Ascot, Poinciana House is a much-needed addition to the community and part of Brisbane Racing Club's (BRC) $1.5 billion rejuvenation of the whole precinct.
Nicholls was joined at the opening event by BRC Chairman Richard Morrison and Brisbane City Councillor Julia Dixon, Bernborough Ascot residents and staff from Keyton and builder Balmain & Co.
Keyton Chief Executive Officer Nathan Cockerill said Poinciana House redefines the concept of vertical seniors' living. "It's a more connected community, focused on a vibrant and fulfilled lifestyle in a luxurious setting," Cockerill said.
With 53 architecturally designed independent living apartments, Poinciana House adds to the sold-out Fig Tree House, and introduces a range of additional resort-style amenities to support Keyton's resident centred approach to health and wellbeing.
Residents can now enjoy a private rooftop terrace, pool, fitness studio, consulting rooms with a variety of allied health services, which complement the existing facilities as well as a new café and existing Trackside Lounge, art studio, library, and private theatre.
Speaking at the event Cockerill said the design of the apartments considers how people want to live and have been shaped by the demands of the new wave of retirees with spacious open plan designs and living areas, study nooks and plenty of storage and natural light.
With retirement living evolving as more people choose to "age in place", Bernborough Ascot represents the future of the sector with the co-location of Opal Healthcare's Ascot Grove Care Community next door due to be completed in 2027.
For Cockerill, this focus on "ageing in place" is reflected in Keyton's focus on providing a more holistic offering incorporating wellness services and community connection which reflects the way retirement living is changing.
"At Keyton, we understand a new generation of retirees no longer view retirement communities as temporary housing but rather as 'forever homes' where both independent living and potential eventual care needs are met within one continuum," Cockerill said.
"We're examining numerous new evidence-based innovative service offerings because they're not only necessary but essential if retirement living providers like us are to meet the challenges of an aging population and ensure sustainable, high-quality care."
The completion of Poinciana House really emphasises this Keyton difference – a commitment to offering a lifestyle that embraces positive health and wellness opportunities for residents.
Taking into account Poinciana House's lifestyle attributes coupled with its seamless blend of modern style with premium craftsmanship, interest in moving to Bernborough Ascot has been high with over 70 per cent now sold.
Moreover, Poinciana House along with the whole of Bernborough Ascot has been acknowledged as one of the nation's most sustainable retirement communities following it securing a 6-Star Green Star Communities rating from the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).
For Cockerill, Poinciana House's gorgeous location and state-of-the-art facilities ensures residents can focus on an active retirement in a vibrant and luxurious setting.
