Queensland Road Safety Week: Drink Driving

This week is Queensland Road Safety Week (August 21 to 25).

This is a week where we remind Queenslanders to be safe on our roads.

Too many people are killed and seriously injured each year on Queensland roads as a result of drink driving. It accounts for more than a fifth of all lives lost on Queensland roads.

However, we still see drivers getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol.

The risk of driving while using drugs is also similar to having a blood alcohol content of up to 0.15 per cent.

An alarming figure is that almost one in four Australian drivers ignore medication warning labels and drive after taking prescription drugs.

Drugs can affect your judgement, vision, coordination, and reflexes - all of which increase your risk of having a crash.

This Queensland Road Safety Week, we are reminding Queenslanders that your actions = your consequences.

Drink and drug driving has a direct consequence on your life and those around you.
