Queensland Unveils New Training to Bridge Skills Gap

Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training The Honourable Ros Bates
  • Thousands of new pathways to work delivered through Crisafulli Government's micro-credentialing program.
  • 17 projects funded which target skills shortages in health, construction, trades and other priority sectors.
  • The Crisafulli Government is delivering a better lifestyle through a stronger economy by fixing Labor's skills crisis.

The Crisafulli Government is helping thousands of Queenslanders get into work through short, targeted programs which deliver critical skills and access to career pathways.

The latest round of micro-credentialing projects has been announced, backing industry groups and employers to train their future workforce, after the former Labor Government let skills shortages grow across the State.

It's just one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland's future and a better lifestyle through a stronger economy after a decade of decline under Labor.

These projects give Queenslanders practical skills, help workers meet new industry standards, and help employers respond faster to workforce shortages.

The Master Painters, Decorators and Signwriters' Association of Queensland was one of the successful applicants and will train 75 jobseekers to become painters, plasterers, tilers and renderers.

The projects are also open to Queenslanders who are already working but are seeking opportunities to upskill and advance their careers.

Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates said the Crisafulli Government was rebuilding the skills pipeline Labor failed to protect.

"Labor left Queensland with skills gaps, workforce shortages and too many missed opportunities," Minister Bates said.

"The Crisafulli Government is cleaning up that mess and working together with industry to train Queenslanders for real jobs."

"These are short courses with a serious purpose, they get people job-ready, help employers find workers and remove the barriers that stop Queenslanders starting a career."
