QUT has been highlighted as one of the top Australian universities supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a national snapshot of leading research.
The Australian's annual magazine Research has listed QUT as among the top five Australian universities supporting the SDGs of: affordable and clean energy; industry, innovation and infrastructure; and sustainable cities and communities.
QUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Sheil said it was important for universities to both lead the way and work with industry in developing sustainable solutions.
"It's important to knock on industry's doors, taking sustainability solutions to them," Professor Sheil said.
QUT experts were also recognised in the annual review of the leading researchers in Australia.
Distinguished Professor Lidia Morawska, recognised as one of Australia's top sustainability experts, was featured as the recent recipient of the 2025 Prime Minister's Prize for Science.
Professor Morawska, who is director of both the ARC Centre for Advanced Building Systems against Airborne Infection Transmission and the QUT International Laboratory for Air Quality and Health, is a world leader in the science of atmospheric pollution.
Professor Morawska's research into ultrafine particles – tiny pollutants small enough to enter the bloodstream – has reshaped the World Health Organization's global air quality guidelines and improved how the world addresses air pollution and its impact on health and the environment.
Professor Morawska was previously recognised in Research as a lifetime achiever and a leader in the field of environmental science.
Other QUT researchers recognised this year as field leaders were Distinguished Emeritus Professor Stuart Cunningham in cultural studies, Distinguished Emeritus Professor Peter Corke in robotics, and Professor Per Davidsson in entrepreneurship and innovation.
QUT was also recognised as the lead institution in the fields of communication, data mining and analysis, robotics, human computer interaction, databases and information systems, visual arts, and entrepreneurship and innovation.
