RAAF Base Pearce: Defence Update on Dust Clouds

Department of Defence

Defence is aware that earthworks related to a runway extension at RAAF Base Pearce on 7 March 2023 appear to have generated noticeable amount of dust clouds. This was a result of the laying down of topsoil.

Whilst the works are occurring at the northern section of the base and well away from PFAS source areas, Defence acknowledges the concerns local community may have about air borne dust particles emanating from Base.

Defence can confirm that no source areas as part of the PFAS management area plan were disturbed as part of the current works.

Defence has advised contractors to increase the use of water trucks and consider wind conditions for the duration of this project to minimise dust concerns. Additionally hydromulch has also been distributed to minimise dust and encourage grass growth.

Defence is committed to being a good neighbour, minimising disruption or concern where possible to local residents.
