- Customers are encouraged to plan ahead, with track closures on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines in place from 27 June to 19 July.
- Multiple major rail projects are now under way as part of Queensland Government's commitment to building a better rail network.
- Track closures required for works to be carried out safely and efficiently are timed to occur mainly during school holidays to coincide with lower rail patronage.
- Rail replacement buses will keep customers moving during this time.
Train customers travelling on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines are being urged to plan ahead with extended track closures in place from 27 June to 19 July.
The closures, largely during the school holidays, will allow important works to be carried out safely and efficiently in the rail corridor as part of building a better rail network for Queensland.
During this period of closures, works will be underway on multiple major projects, including:
- Stabling yard and station upgrades to support Cross River Rail;
- Installing a new digital signalling system as part of the European Train Control System works between Beenleigh and Varsity Lakes;
- Early works to duplicate tracks, upgrade stations and remove level crossings as part of the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project; and
- Platform construction, signalling and track works for the Loganlea Station Relocation project.
Acting Head of Translink Dean Helm said the works were part of building a better rail network for now and into the future.
"These track closures allow important work to be undertaken on a number of projects that are critical to improving access to some of the fastest growing locations around South East Queensland," Mr Helm said.
"Significant works like these need to take place in the rail corridor and so can only be carried out safely and efficiently while trains are not running.
"If you are travelling during this period - whether that's to work, an appointment or a major event - I encourage you to plan ahead, consider your transport options, and allow plenty of travel time.
"We understand extended track closures can be an inconvenience to customers. This is why we have coordinated work across multiple projects to be undertaken at the same time to help minimise the period of the disruption.
"While there is never a good time for track closures, conducting the majority of the work over the school holiday period will minimise the impact as less customers travel on the network at this time.
"We will ensure plenty of rail replacement bus services are available providing connections to help customers complete their journeys."
Cross River Rail Delivery Authority CEO Graeme Newton said some of the works were part of the Delivery Authority's wider scope beyond the new underground tunnels and stations, which made up just one part of the broader rail transformation underway.
"Crews will be busy out in the rail corridor to make the most of the opportunity alongside other major projects to work safety and efficiently while trains aren't running," Mr Newton said.
"Critical works will be underway across the network, including commissioning key signalling assets at Clapham Yard, construction of Moorooka station, and services and overhead line equipment installation in the Yeerongpilly-Moorooka corridor.
"On the Gold Coast, work will also be underway at Merrimac station."
The works will also mean minor impacts on other lines.
Train services on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines will recommence from Monday 19 July.
Every effort will be made to carry out these works as planned but due to ongoing union Protected Industrial Action by Queensland Rail staff, there may be changes to these arrangements. Any changes will be communicated to customers with as much notice as possible.
