One of Western Australia's prime fishing spots, Thevenard Island, will be better connected thanks to the Albanese Government's Mobile Black Spot Program (MBSP).
A new Telstra mobile base station is operating on the island off the Pilbara coast, providing improved 4G mobile coverage to the area.
Thevenard Island is part of the Mackerel Islands group and is a world-class fishing destination. The new facility means people have better access to emergency services and public safety messaging, improving connectivity while supporting local tourism.
Funding for recent rounds of the MBSP are part of the Government's $1.1 billion Better Connectivity Plan for Regional and Rural Australia, as we strive to be the world's most connected continent.
The mobile base station was co-funded by the Albanese Government, the WA Government and Telstra under Round 5 of the MBSP.
