Recent Covid related breaches, South Australia

Several people have recently been arrested for breaches of the Emergency Management Act.

About 3pm on Thursday 2 September, Police stopped a vehicle crossing fields near Penola entering South Australia from Victoria.

The occupants of the vehicle, a 27-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, both from Victoria, were arrested and charged with breaching the Emergency Management Act.

Both people were conveyed to the Mount Gambier Police station where they were refused police bail and appeared before the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on 3 September where they were remanded in custody until Tuesday 28 September.

At 6.20pm on Monday 6 September, Hills Fleurieu police arrested a man and a woman from Kangaroo Island for fail to comply with a direction of the Emergency Management Act.

The couple, a 64-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman, both from American River, entered South Australia from New South Wales about 1.00pm on Friday 3 September using a minor road south of Broken Hill. About 12.00pm on Sunday 5 September they boarded the Sealink Ferry to Kangaroo island.

Both people have been taken to the City Watch House, charged, and refused bail. They appeared before the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday 7 September and were given bail, and have now been moved into a medi-hotel.

Both have had a negative covid test result.

On Thursday 26 August a 29-year-old man from Port Noarlunga made an application to return to South Australia from Victoria which was declined.

At 1.30pm on Monday 6 September Southern District Police attended the man's address in response to a dispute. Investigations revealed that the man was not permitted to be in South Australia and he was arrested for fail to comply with a direction of the Emergency Management Act.

The man was conveyed to the City Watch House and charged. He was refused bail and appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday 7 September. The man was given bail and is now in quarantine at his home address under a tight compliance regime.

The man has returned a negative covid test.

About 10pm on Monday 6 September a man under medi-hotel quarantine requirements was arrested at the Stamford Hotel when he tried to leave the hotel.

The man, an 18-year-old who arrived in South Australia from Qatar on Thursday 2 September, took a lift to the foyer of the hotel and refused to comply with police requests to return to his hotel room.

The man was arrested and conveyed to the City Watch House. He was charged with fail to comply with a direction in accordance with the Emergency Management Act. The man appeared before the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday 7 September and has been remanded in custody to 17 September.
