Australia Day is a special occasion to celebrate our nation and reflect on what it means to be Australian. For our City, it's also an opportunity to honour the outstanding contributions of community members through the Australia Day Community Awards.
Each year, the Awards recognise those who dedicate their time and energy to making our City a better place for everyone. Award winners will be announced during a special ceremony on Australia Day. Stay connected by following our Facebook page for updates.
To help families join in the celebrations, free pool entry will be available on Monday 26 January from 10am - 4pm at Prairiewood and Fairfield leisure centres. The Fairfield Youth and Community Centre will also offer free entry from 10am - 3.30pm. In the evening, enjoy free kids face painting, DJ, and fireworks at Adams Park, Canley Vale from 6pm.
Council will also be giving away free Australia Day flags to residents starting Monday 19 January. Collect your free flag from Council's Administration Centre, libraries, leisure centres, or at the Australia Day event at Adams Park on 26 January.
Preparations are already underway for one of Council's most popular events, the Cabramatta Lunar New Year Festival. Welcome the Year of the Horse in the heart of Cabramatta on Saturday 28 February from 11am - 9pm.
The day will feature lion dancing, free face painting and balloon animals, amusement rides, delicious food, fireworks, and much more.
It's wonderful to begin the year with some of our biggest celebrations, and I look forward to sharing these moments with you.
