Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has implemented a reduction in the speed limit on a section of Redlands Road in Corowa, effective from Tuesday, April 29. The speed limit has been lowered from 80 km/h to 60 km/h between 130 metres west of Jasmin Court and the 100 km/h change point, 1160 metres west of Cemetery Road.

Federation Council has expressed its disappointment with this decision, stating that TfNSW did not conduct adequate community engagement prior to implementation.

Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook, conveyed the council's position.

"Federation Council was not supportive of this decision by TfNSW," said Mayor Cook.

"We strongly believe that community engagement should have been undertaken to properly inform the final decision. We advised TfNSW of our view that the community should have been consulted."

The speed zone review, which prompted the change, cited concerns about vehicle speeds in the area with increased pedestrian and traffic activity.

"While we acknowledge TfNSW's focus on road safety, we maintain that transparency and community input are essential," Mayor Cook said. "We understand that speed limit reductions can cause inconveniences, and we regret that our community was not given the chance to voice their concerns beforehand."

Motorists are advised that signage will be installed in the coming days to indicate the new speed limit. Additionally, road markings and a VMS board will be used to alert motorists of the upcoming change.
