Looking for ways to reduce energy costs and cut down on waste in your home or business?
Freo residents can now borrow DIY Energy Audit Kits from Fremantle Library, thanks to the Energy Efficiency Pilot Program. The Program is funded by the State Government and facilitated by Switch Your Thinking.
These kits provide simple tools to help you assess your home or business energy use and identify areas for improvement.
How it works:
Borrow a kit from Fremantle Library at Walyalup Centre-just like a book
Use it for up to two weeks to complete your home or business audit
Return it to the library when you're done.
Library staff are happy to assist if you have any questions. You must be a Fremantle Library member to borrow the kit. You can sign up here.
What's inside the audit kit?
- A thermal imaging camera to help you locate draughts around your home.
- A plug-in energy monitor for measuring energy consumption and running costs.
- A basin flow measuring cup to determine the water flow rate of your taps
- A thermometer for measuring the temperature of rooms, fridges and freezers.
- An instructional manual which explains how to conduct a variety of tests.
- As part of this energy saving drive, residents can also attend FREE workshops, enter competitions to win sustainable appliances, and access practical tips for reducing household energy costs.
These workshops are open to non-residents and there are other workshops and energy audit kits available elsewhere (including online).

We encourage residents to take part, and check where you can improve your home and business energy efficiency.
Not only will this reduce your energy bills, but it also helps reduce your carbon emissions. Taking action against climate change is more important than ever and making small changes at home can have a big impact.
