The winners of Council's annual Sustainability in Action Photo Competition have been announced this week and have recognised a number of schools and households from across the region who are leading the way in sustainability.

Water and Environmental Sustainability Councillor Donna Kirkland said she was thrilled to announce this year's competition winners and celebrate the wide range of sustainability actions being implemented at a local level.

"Council's Sustainability in Action Photo Competition works to showcase the amazing efforts of our community through photos of their sustainability efforts in action," Cr Kirkland said.

"Local primary and high schools have participated in the competition since it began in 2019, and this year we extended the categories to also include households.

"It has been fantastic to see so many entries and to see the varied activities happening in both our homes and our schools.

"This year's school entries put the spotlight on some terrific projects that our local students are embarking on, and they should be really proud of these efforts.

"One great example is Frenchville State School's year 6 students - who took up the initiative to help raise awareness and funds for rescued turtles, and another is The Cathedral College's record-breaking turn out at this year's Clean Up Australia Day event.

"For our household categories - our winners showed the ways they have been making more sustainable choices at home through efforts the likes of creating vegie gardens, keeping chickens, and working on water efficiency – just to name a few.

"They're each great examples of how everyday efforts can make a huge impact on our households, on our budgets and of course, on our environment.

"I'd like to thank everyone who entered the competition – I can't wait to see more of these activities showcased next year."
