New Inductee Into Wagga Wagga Sporting Hall Of Fame

Former professional tennis player, Carl Limberger, has been inducted into the Wagga Wagga Sporting Hall of Fame at a ceremony held at the Jim Elphick Tennis Centre on Friday evening.

Carl Limberger was born in Wagga Wagga and it was here that his tennis career started, partaking in camps held by well-known local tennis coach Bill Williams.

He moved to Sydney at the age of 12 where he was coached by John Greig and throughout his career he was mentored by tennis greats including Tony Roche, Dick Crealy, Ray Ruffels and Barry Phillips Moore.

In 1983, Carl turned pro, joining the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Tour which took him to tournaments all over the world.

"Carl Limberger is a worthy addition to the Sporting Hall of Fame, having represented his country at tennis tournaments all over the world," Cr Tout said.

"His love for tennis started right here in Wagga Wagga and his talent took him to the courts of Melbourne Park, Roland Garros, Flushing Meadows and Wimbledon.
