The Murray-Darling Basin Authority is increasing the release of water from Dartmouth Dam to manage airspace in the dam.
Variable flow pulses of up to 7,000 megalitres per day (ML/day) will be released into the Mitta Mitta River over the coming weeks. During this time flows will remain below the river capacity of 10,000 ML/day.
The purpose of increasing the releases now is to help target a lower storage level in Dartmouth Dam ahead of the potential for wet weather in winter and spring, without impacting on the volume of water available in the River Murray system in the months ahead.
Taking the opportunity to make releases that stay within the river channel is an important part of managing future risk.
Further rain and increased inflows during February could see these releases continue further into autumn.
Landholders and river users on the Mitta Mitta River are advised to regularly check the flow levels and forecasts on the MDBA website
