Renewable Energy Leader To Chair SEC

The Allan Labor Government has appointed a permanent board to lead the revived State Electricity Commission (SEC) which will accelerate Victoria's renewable energy transition, deliver 4.5 gigawatts of new renewable electricity generation and storage and help cut household power bills.

Minister for the State Electricity Commission Lily D'Ambrosio today announced Simon Corbell as chair of the SEC Board along with four board directors that have experience in finance, asset management, energy and investment.

Simon Corbell brings considerable experience in renewable energy investment, policy and regulation to the Board. His public and private sector roles in the energy transition - most recently at the Clean Energy Investor Group - will be key to guiding the SEC in its work.

Joycelyn Morton is an experienced board member of ASX-listed companies and government-owned corporations, including Epic Energy, Gelion and previously Snowy Hydro, where she also chaired the Risk and Audit Committee. Her long executive career includes senior management and global leadership roles.

Anna Skarbek is the CEO of Climateworks Centre and a founding director of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation. She has considerable private and public sector knowledge, and is an experienced director, investment banker, policy advisor and lawyer. She recently served on the SEC Expert Advisory Panel.

Jo Benvenuti brings a deep understanding of energy, water policy, and customer welfare and engagement. She is on the Board of Gippsland Water, served on the SEC Expert Advisory Panel and has previously chaired two energy specific government advisory panels.

Damien Barnes is a Bidjara man with 30 years experience in law, commercial management and engineering, including in infrastructure, mining, resources, energy, renewables and cultural heritage.He also has extensive board and committee experience, including with the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence and Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre.

The SEC board will play a significant role in supporting Victoria to achieve its nation-leading renewable energy target of 95 per cent by 2035. Work is underway to fill two additional board positions.
