The partners marked a milestone event in Madrid, highlighting joint research activity and opportunities for future collaboration.
Senior representatives from RMIT and Moeve gathered at the company's Madrid headquarters to celebrate the successful implementation of two AuSpire Fellowships, highlighting how international research collaboration can contribute to the energy transition.
Discussions focused on the research enabled through the fellowships and explored opportunities to expand collaboration further to include talent development, and deeper industry and university international engagement.
Coordinated by RMIT Europe, the Australia-Spain Network for Innovation and Research Excellence (AuSpire) connects Spanish and Australian research communities through 28 postdoctoral fellowships, fostering knowledge exchange between leading research institutions and industry partners.
RMIT Vice-President Engagement Michelle King and Research Director Pawel Poneta attended, alongside Moeve CEO Maarten Wetselaar, and Her Excellency Rosemary Morris-Castico, Australian Ambassador to Spain.
Moeve, formerly known as Cepsa, is a large Spanish energy and mobility company transitioning towards a low-carbon business model.
As part of its "Positive Motion 2030" strategy, the company has announced an €8 billion low-carbon investment program and is significantly reducing its exposure to traditional upstream oil activities, having recently offloaded a large part of its oil production assets to fund its transition.
Speaking after the celebration, RMIT Vice-President Engagement Michelle King said that meaningful innovation happens when research, industry and talent come together around shared challenges.
"Moeve's commitment to leading energy transition makes it a valued partner, and these AuSpire Fellowships are a tangible example of the impact such collaboration can achieve," she said.
