Request For Proposal Issued For Affordable And Social Housing

  • Restricted request for proposal issued to three Community Housing Providers to manage former Fraser Suites
  • $105 million acquisition will deliver up to 236 new affordable and social housing units

The Cook Labor Government has issued a restricted request for proposal (RFP) to three Community Housing Providers (CHPs) for the management of a major new affordable and social housing development in East Perth.

The State purchased the former Fraser Suites in Adelaide Terrace in June for $105 million, securing a property with up to 236 residential units and 11 commercial suites.

To ensure the property and tenancies are managed to the highest standard, the Department of Housing and Works has invited proposals from three prequalified Tier 1 CHPs: Community Housing Limited, Foundation Housing Limited, and Housing Choices WA.

The three providers were selected for the RFP through the Department's Community Housing Organisation Prequalification Scheme and have considerable proven experience and expertise and manage a substantial portfolio of affordable and social housing across Western Australia.

The successful provider will enter into a lease agreement to manage the property and its tenants. The Government expects to select a preferred provider by early December.

The site will provide a significant boost to the supply of rental housing for Western Australians in housing need.

Quotes attributed to Housing and Works Minister John Carey:

"This project will deliver hundreds of homes in the heart of East Perth, providing safe, secure and affordable housing for those who need it most.

"Community Housing Providers are skilled in matching people to properties according to individual requirements by considering location, design and support needs.

"The acquisition was a historic decision, marking the single-biggest purchase of a building for affordable and social housing by a WA Government, and is part of our record $5.8 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures."
