Residents are asked to continue limiting their water use ahead of forecast rainfalls that could interrupt treatment.
Level 4 water restrictions remain in place to preserve water stores that may be needed during predicted heavy rain from midday Thursday.
Council implemented water restrictions on Sunday after treatment operations were temporarily paused due to heavy down pours that impacted raw water quality.
Over the past days, reservoirs have been replenished with treatment back online and reduced water use by the community.
While there has been a reduction in daily water consumption, Council is encouraging the community to remain vigilant and continue reducing water use to help sustain the supply.
Level 4 water restrictions limit water use to essential purposes only, including drinking, cooking and bathing. Residents are requested to postpone filling pools, watering gardens and lawns or washing vehicles and outdoor areas.
Council monitoring weather predictions
Council is closely monitoring weather predictions, which anticipate an intense period of rain from midday Thursday bringing the likelihood of further water treatment disruption.
Currently, Tropical Cyclone Narelle is expected to impact communities north of the Cairns region later in the week. Associated rain extends further north and south and will continue to be monitored.
Significant rainfall can cause turbidity and increases spillage from Copperlode dam, which can affect water treatment operations.
Be prepared – store water
Residents are encouraged to store water now as a precaution in case there are disruptions to the water supply.
For drinking water, use clean, food-grade containers and store them in a cool, dark place. Stored drinking water should be refreshed every three months.
Residents can also store non-potable water for uses such as flushing toilets or watering gardens. This can include collecting rainwater, saving shower water, or using pool water where appropriate.
