Results of Operation Solo Safe

Yarra and Melbourne Highway Patrol members detected over two hundred mobile phone offences during the four days of Operation Solo Safe, Victoria Police say.

Operation Safe Solo was conducted after statistics indicated that 10 per cent of road trauma involving motorcycles state-wide occurred in the inner-city suburbs, primarily the CBD area and arterial roads such as Alexander Parade, Hoddle Street, City Road and the Monash and Westgate freeways.

The operation commenced on Tuesday 4 December and concluded four days later with officers detecting 341 offences.

The offences included:

•255 mobile phone offences (car/motorcycle drivers)

•3 mobile phone offence (bicycle riders)

•3 disqualified/suspended drivers

•3 unlicensed riders/drivers

•8 unregistered cars/motorcycles

•1 breach of interlock condition

•22 Infringements for traffic offences including 8 for fail to wear helmet.
