Retirement of Jonathan O'Dea MP

NSW Legislative Assembly Speaker Jonathan O'Dea MP has confirmed he will not recontest his seat at next year's State election.

Jonathan has been a very successful local advocate for his community in Northern Sydney's Davidson electorate since 2007. As the Member for Davidson, he has delivered significant infrastructure investments in health, education, transport and public recreation. He has also advocated for a sensible balance of local progress and environmental protection.

Before becoming Speaker, Jonathan performed a broad range of parliamentary roles, including Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier and Treasurer, Parliamentary Secretary for Trade and Investment, Major Events and Tourism and Chair of the Public Accounts Committee.

Jonathan has been a vital contributor to the State, including as Speaker of the Lower House since 2019. He has governed the parliamentary precinct with high integrity and capability, including to effectively manage COVID-19 restrictions in the Parliament during the pandemic.

As Speaker, he has led and driven substantial reform to modernise Parliament's infrastructure and systems, increase public education and engagement, lift standards of behaviour and promote professional development of members.

On behalf of the NSW Government and the NSW Liberal Party, I take this opportunity to thank Jonathan for his outstanding contribution and dedication over many years of service to communities across NSW and the Davidson electorate.
