A $50,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to the apprehension and conviction of the person responsible for the hit and run of an elderly woman in Hyde Park, Townsville last year.

Investigators have released vision of a utility believed to be involved in a hit and run at Castletown Shopping Centre on October 15 in which an elderly pedestrian was struck by a vehicle which then fled the scene.

Around 8am on Friday October 15, an 89-year-old woman was walking in the underground car park of the shopping centre, at the Barryman Street entrance.

A utility drove past her and then began to reverse and collided with the lady, causing her to fall and hit her head on the ground. She suffered life changing injuries.

The utility then left the carpark at speed.

The Garbutt woman was transported to the Townsville Hospital, where she spent many months in a serious but stable condition with head injuries.

The utility is believed to be a black or dark green, blue or purple Holden Commodore utility with style sides and a distinctive chrome nudge bar (see vision of actual vehicle), which may have since been removed.

Investigators are appealing for the driver, or anyone who recognises the vehicle or has further information to contact police.
