RMIT University will expand its decades-long partnership with the Shanghai University of Business and Economics (SUIBE).
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan visited SUIBE's Gubei campus in Shanghai to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two universities to kick-off the process to seek approval for joint institute status and become a flagship model of transnational education.
Under the strengthened partnership, RMIT would deliver additional undergraduate and postgraduate programs in technology and business, allowing SUIBE students to study internationally renowned RMIT programs in their local community as well as joint research and engagement.
The joint institute status would build on existing education delivery and student mobility opportunities to Melbourne in international business, trade, finance, commerce, logistics and supply chain management.
SUIBE is RMIT's key partner institution delivering international business degrees in the East China region and has jointly delivered high quality RMIT degrees for nearly 30 years. Programs already include both associate and undergraduate degrees, reflecting leadership as the nation's largest dual sector university.
The partnership has supported more than 4,600 graduates since 1998, who make a significant contribution to Australia-China trade and investment through roles in government, industry and academia.
RMIT is a leading provider of transnational education, with a presence in Vietnam, Singapore and India that spans almost four decades.
This announcement will directly support a goal in Victoria's new China Strategy to see expanded transnational education offerings in China.
