City of Logan Mayor Darren Power has called for greater respect for road safety and improved driving behaviours to stop the city's rising road toll.
Three people have lost their lives on the City of Logan's roads in the last two weeks.
Eleven have been killed so far this year, just five short of last year's toll.
The Fatal Five - speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, drug and drink driving, distracted driving and fatigue - were the cause of most accidents in the City of Logan.
This Queensland Road Safety Week (August 16-22), Logan City Council is urging motorists to take responsibility for road safety and reducing the number of crashes.
"This year has seen far too many people lose their lives," Councillor Power said.
"It's even more disappointing to know that the Fatal Five was involved in nearly every local accident.
"Please have that conversation with a loved one, or maybe even think about your own attitude towards driving and think about what you can do better.
"We lost 16 lives on Logan's roads last year, I really hope we don't reach that number again this year."
Infrastructure Chair Councillor Teresa Lane echoed the Mayor's call for better driver behaviour.
"The many challenges of the past year appear to have impacted some people's driving skills and on-road capabilities and the time has come to call out poor driving behaviours," Cr Lane said.
Queenslanders are being asked to create a sign with their road safety message and share it on social media using #QRSW2021 or by tagging @StreetSmartsQLD.
Council demonstrates its commitment to lowering the road toll through the SafeRoads4Logan partnership with the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Queensland Police Service, Queensland Health and the RACQ.
SafeRoads4Logan drives initiatives such as portable speed advisory signs, driver education and adopting safe road designs.
