Murrindindi Shire Council is inviting residents, businesses and visitors to help shape the future of Alexandra's town centre through a new Grant Street Safety and Streetscape Improvement Plan.
Council has already secured funding for several important safety improvements within the Grant Street precinct and is now asking the community to help identify priorities for the next stage of improvements. Community feedback will help shape a long-term vision for the town centre, strengthen Council's advocacy to other levels of government and position future projects for funding opportunities.
Grant Street is the heart of Alexandra, connecting local businesses, schools, community services, events and public spaces. Council is seeking feedback on how it is used, where improvements could be made and what opportunities could be considered to create a safer, more accessible and more vibrant town centre.
Mayor Cr Damien Gallagher said the project gives the community a genuine opportunity to help shape the future of one of Alexandra's most important public spaces.
"Grant Street is much more than Alexandra's main street. It's where people come together. It's where people shop, meet friends, access services, attend events and experience the best of our town," Cr Gallagher said.
"We've already secured funding for several important safety improvements, and now we're looking beyond those projects. This is an opportunity for the community to help shape a long-term vision for Grant Street so we're ready to advocate for future investment as funding opportunities arise."

Council is progressing several grant funded safety projects in the precinct, including upgrades to the Nihil Street roundabout, improvements around the Grant Street Rotunda and upgrades to the Webster Street school crossing.
While these works progress, the Grant Street Safety and Streetscape Improvement Plan will help identify longer-term priorities for improving safety, accessibility, walking and cycling connections, landscaping, public spaces and the overall experience of Alexandra's town centre.
Consultation is open now and closes on Sunday 6 September 2026.
If you live, work or visit Alexandra, have your say on the future of Grant Street. Whether you have two minutes for a quick poll, want to complete the full survey, attend a pop-up session or join a guided walk-through, there are plenty of ways to get involved.
The first pop-up session will be held at Alexandra Library from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm on Monday 3 August, providing an opportunity to meet the project team, learn more about the project and share your ideas in person.
The project area extends from the Nihil Street roundabout to UT Creek Bridge and from Webster Street to Bayley Street. It includes Grant Street, Bakers Lane, the Grant Street Rotunda, Webster Street school crossing connections and surrounding public spaces.
