Rockhampton Fund to Unlock 3,600 New Homes

Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and Minister for Industrial Relations The Honourable Jarrod Bleijie
  • Rockhampton to benefit from round one of the Residential Activation Fund, which was doubled to $1 billion in State Budget.
  • Residential Activation Fund to deliver $27.58 million towards three critical infrastructure projects in Rockhampton.
  • At least half of the $2 billion Residential Activation Fund dedicated to fast-tracking regional housing projects.

More than 3,600 homes will be delivered in Rockhampton with construction of three critical infrastructure projects set to be fast-tracked under the Crisafulli Government's landmark $2 billion Residential Activation Fund.

The Crisafulli Government has today announced funding under the Residential Activation Fund will deliver a $17.26 million boost towards the $23 million Parkhurst Residential Enabling Infrastructure Project and a $9.75 million boost towards the $13 million North Rockhampton Sewage Treatment Plant UV Disinfection Facility.

The Residential Activation Fund will also support important planning work including detailed design for the Limestone Creek Trunk Sewerage Network (Stage 1), allowing it to become a construction ready project.

The $2 billion Residential Activation Fund has received 178 submissions – 64 from South East Queensland and 114 from regional, rural and remote Queensland.

The Crisafulli Government's 2025-26 Budget is delivering up to $1 billion for round one of the Residential Activation Fund, doubled from the original $500 million, in response to the overwhelming support and availability of shovel-ready projects.

Round one funding focuses on the construction of critical truck infrastructure needed such as water supply, sewerage, stormwater, and roads needed to unlock new residential developments and ease Labor's Housing Crisis.

The $2 billion Residential Activation Fund is a key pillar of the Crisafulli Government's Securing Our Housing Foundations Plan and is breaking down the barriers for infill and greenfield developments.

The Fund will deliver a place to call home for more Queenslanders and support one million new homes by 2044 with at least 50 per cent of the overall funding to be invested in regional, rural and remote Queensland.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, said the Residential Activation Fund was set to unlock thousands of new homes across Queensland.

"The Crisafulli Government is delivering on our election commitment to give more Queenslanders a place to call home by funding shovel-ready projects like the brand new 1.8km extension of Alexandra Street in Parkhurst, unlocking existing housing approvals in Western Parkhurst," Deputy Premier Bleijie said.

"This project will transform the housing landscape in Central Queensland and give more Queenslanders a place to call home.

"Partnering with the Rockhampton Regional Council to unlock this critical infrastructure will deliver more local homes.

"The Residential Activation Fund is just one way the Crisafulli Government is creating jobs, unlocking housing and ensuring that Queensland continues to grow ahead of 2032 and beyond."

Rockhampton Mayor Tony Williams thanked the Crisafulli Government for this critical housing partnership, addressing housing shortages impacting the local community.

"Whether that's people who are struggling to find homes at an affordable rate or businesses who are struggling to attract staff and workers as a result of the housing pressures," Mayor Williams said.

"This is having a real impact in people's lives and in our community.

"That's why in March we developed our Housing Infrastructure Priority List – to be on the front foot and drive initiatives that will have a tangible impact.

"I'm really pleased to have received funding for all three projects we applied for under the Residential Activation Fund and to be working with the Deputy Premier, our local MPs and the Crisafulli Government to get new homes delivered across our region."

Member for Rockhampton Donna Kirkland acknowledged the partnership with council as part of the Crisafulli Government's landmark investment in the regions.

"The RAF will give more Queenslanders a place to call home, particularly in Central Queensland which was previously overlooked by the former Labor Government," Mrs Kirkland said.

"Delivering vital infrastructure is a key part of the LNP's plan to build more homes in our region."

Member for Keppel Nigel Hutton said the RAF would unlock much-needed housing in the region.

"The Crisafulli Government is committed to helping more Queenslanders realise their dream of owning their own home," Mr Hutton said.

"We are working with local Councils to unlock housing supply to ease the burden on our communities and ensure more people have the safety and security of a roof over their heads."
