Rockin' carnivorous plant taking over Subiaco stage

Entertaind

It's almost time to hold your hat and hang onto your soul, something's coming to eat Subiaco whole!

The infamous Audrey II will rock his way onto the stage this month, when Perth-based company Entertaind presents Little Shop of Horrors.

The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush.

This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD.

Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!

Based on a 1960's black comedy movie, and since re-made into the cult classic 1986 movie starring Rick Moranis and Ellen Greene, Little Shop of Horrors enjoys an iconic status in both the horror and comedy genres. The award-winning writing team, Howard Ashman and Alan Menken's hit musical adaptation has enjoyed successful runs across the world.

Director and MD, Scott-Leonard Landers, mentioned he has been looking forward to a second run of the sho.

"It's a delight to be diving back into Little Shop of Horrors", he said. "Our 2013 run was incredible fun and we're all obsessed with the amazing music and storytelling of the show."

Melissa Gall and Mark Retzlaff play the lead roles of Audrey and Seymour Krelborn respectively. Local music legend Jamie Mercanti plays greedy shop owner Mr Mushnik, and Perth theatre icon Lloyd Hopkins (most recently, Emmett in HAMA Productions' Legally Blonde at Crown Theatre) shines as sadistic dentist Orin Scrivello. Landers will reprise his role as the voice of the foul-mouthed, blood-hungry plant, Audrey II.

Little Shop of Horrors runs from the 24th to the 27th of November, with tickets available via Ticketek.

The show contains mature themes and is not recommended for children under 12.
