- Sustainability Action Plan supports sustainable tourism in the A Class Reserve
Rottnest Island is continuing to build its green credentials as a sustainable tourism destination.
It has received its 2018 Silver certification as a sustainable destination from EarthCheck, the world's leading environmental management and professional services group for the travel and tourism industry.
In addition, the Rottnest Island Authority has released its Sustainability Action Plan 2018-2024 in conjunction with the island's business community.
This is a significant step in the island's efforts to improve its management of the environmental, social, cultural and economic aspects of Rottnest.
The plan sets agreed community targets for categories such as water use, waste management, transport and carbon emissions, ensuring the island can enhance its sustainability.

As stated by Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:
"Rottnest's reputation as a sustainable destination is continuing to grow with initiatives such as its Sustainability Action Plan and EarthCheck silver certification.
"Already, Rottnest is achieving great results in the area of sustainability with 45 per cent of the island's power being supplied by renewable energy.
"Additionally, in an island-first, no water was extracted from the Wadjemup Aquifer this year following upgrades to the island's wastewater treatment plant.
"With the Sustainability Action Plan in place there is an opportunity for the island community to all work together towards long-term sustainability."
