Excitement for the Men's Rugby World Cup Australia 2027 has reached new heights, with the official draw revealing which nations will face off in each pool.
Australia will take on pool A nations New Zealand, Chile, and Hong Kong China, one of which will compete in the highly anticipated opening match featuring the Wallabies in Perth.
New Zealand are three-time men's Rugby World Cup winners and will be looking to go a step further than their final loss at France 2023, while Chile make their second successive Rugby World Cup appearance after debuting in 2023.
Hong Kong China will make their Rugby World Cup debut after winning the Asia Rugby Men's Championship, making history as only the second Asian side ever to qualify for tournament.
The Men's Rugby World Cup 2027 draw divides the 24 qualified teams into six pools, with every team playing their pool opponents over three rounds.
Supported by the Cook Government through Tourism WA, Perth will host seven matches in total, including the opening match, four additional pool matches, and two rounds of 16 clashes.
Held every four years, the Men's Rugby World Cup 2027 is the most prestigious tournament in rugby union and ranks as the third largest sporting event in the world behind only the Summer Olympics and the Men's FIFA World Cup.
Western Australia is in the midst of its golden decade of rugby, having already hosted the HSBC SVNS in 2025, with the SVNS tournament secured until 2028.
Other highlights include the Wallabies vs Springboks blockbuster in August 2024, the British and Irish Lions Tour in June 2025, and the recent sold-out Australian-exclusive Bledisloe Cup in October 2025.
In the lead up to the Men's Rugby World Cup 2027, the Cook Government has committed millions of dollars to developing community rugby legacy programs and infrastructure upgrades for local sporting clubs, where teams competing at the tournament will train.
Hosting major events, like the Men's Rugby World Cup 2027, demonstrate the Cook Government's commitment to economic diversification, helping build a year-round events calendar that attracts out-of-state visitors and grows the State's visitor economy to boost local business and local jobs.
Match schedules for the Men's Rugby World Cup 2027 will be released in early 2026.

"Hosting the opening match of the Men's Rugby World Cup 2027 will put the eyes of the rugby world firmly on Western Australia in this once-in-a-lifetime major event for our State.
"Today's draw has built anticipation for this massive event and I can't wait to see the action unfold when Perth will shine on the global stage as a key host of the Men's Rugby World Cup 2027.
"Hosting world-class events like this, the third largest sporting event in the world, cements WA's reputation as the fastest-growing events destination in the South-East Asia region.
"Growing that reputation is a key focus of the Cook Government's economic diversification strategy to support local jobs and boost local businesses by driving visitors to WA with drawcard events."
