The City of Ballarat will install rumble strips and upgrade signs on the Greenhalghs Road and Finchs Road intersection at Bunkers Hill next week, weather permitting.
The interim safety measures are designed to alert and slow motorists approaching the intersection in the 80kmh zone and improve safety for motorists.
Rumble strips will be installed in large blocks from a distance of 190m on both approaches to Greenhalghs Road, 'Stop' signs will replace 'Give Way' signs and warning signs will be installed along both sides of Finchs Road.
The $14,200 upgrade for rumble strips is being funded from the City of Ballarat's Local Area Traffic Management budget.
The City of Ballarat is also making a detailed submission to the Federal Government's Black Spot Funding Program for a roundabout to further improve safety at the intersection.
City of Ballarat Director Infrastructure and Environment Bridget Wetherall said while only an interim measure, the rumble strips and new signs will alert drivers to the intersection.
"The rumble strips and stop signs will help to improve driver awareness and safety at the intersection, while we await the outcome of the Black Spot Funding submission," she said.
Traffic management will be in place during the safety improvement works, including reduced speed limits.
