The Salvation Army is pleased to announce the appointment of Major Nathan and Captain Kylie Hodges as the new Corps Officers of the Salvation Army's Bayside Corps, bringing decades of leadership experience and a deep commitment to community-focused ministry.
Major Nathan & Captain Kylie Hodges have served as Salvation Army Officers for 15 years and 14 years, respectively. With 3 children and their dog, they have recently moved to Redlands community to lead Bayside Salvos which is located in Alexandra Hills.
Experience includes leadership of multiple churches, regional youth, and children's work along with a recruitment role across NSW / ACT, South Australia and now Queensland. There is a wide breadth of knowledge and experience from their years of service.
Areas of Passion
Before entering Salvation Army Officership, Major Nathan was a youth worker and the passion for youth and children's work has continued throughout his work and ministry. In recent years Nathan has been involved significantly in the local churches response to people experiencing homelessness in Victor Harbor (South Australia) as well as developing ways for the church to connect with the community and show love and care to those who are experiencing hardship in many different ways.
Nathan loves to be creative in his approach to ministry within The Salvation Army and how the church connects and supports people. With a very entrepreneurial mind, there is never a dull moment and always a new and creative task at hand.
Captain Kylie, before entering into Salvation Army Officership, was a primary school teacher and loved to see young children develop and grow to their full capacity. This belief in the potential of every individual continues to drive her ministry today. She is dedicated to creating safe and nurturing environments where families can thrive and where people of all ages feel a genuine sense of belonging and purpose.
Vision for Bayside Salvos
Major Nathan and Captain Kylie want to see Bayside Salvos continue to connect with its community, providing a greater level of support for those experiencing hardship, and ultimately see community members who have been doing it tough developing the resilience and strength to face their challenges and overcome the struggles that life throws their way. They believe that people can experience freedom and transformation in their lives, so that they can experience the fullness of life that everyone was created to have.
Personal Background
Along with their 3 kids, they love to explore the areas in which they live. Whether that has been when they have lived in various locations in NSW and ACT, South Australia or here in the Redlands community in QLD, they are keen to discover just how beautiful this area is. Whether that is through 4WD adventures or participating in Parkrun, going for a walk along the waters edge or enjoying the community markets, they are already discovering how amazing it is to live in the Redlands community.
